Hey, folks!

Kyle and I are starting a YouTube channel/community for a project we're calling Not One Zombie. The idea is to showcase short subjects about the zombie apocalypse that never actually show a zombie on-screen.

We'd love to have folks contribute! Submissions, questions and comments can be sent to not1zombie at gmail. Any length is fine, so long as it can be uploaded to YouTube. Artwork, stories, etc. are also welcome - we can showcase them here via slides and audio/visual text.

You can see our first submission here: Not One Zombie

We're also happy to help folks with ideas, editing, music, whatever.

Come play in the End Times with us!

Or make a Canadian equivalent.

Not that zombies could touch Canada, as you guys are too bad ass and drunk and the zombies would just think you're one of them as you stagger around.

"Not like there's anyway you can die with dignity when you have a popped collar and just puked up two shots of Jager."

Fucking love that line.

The script looks really good. Can't wait to see the video for it.

Since I am much to lazy to actually do anything other then suggest ideas here are a few that I think would work well.

1. Intro to scene is that you are staring down a long hall way of cell doors, its dimly light and in the background you hear a voice talking about a perfect society of subservient people who only focus on their base desires thus allowing humans to achieve their goal of a perfection.

Slowly the camera moves down the hall way, never looking into the cells but you can tell from the inside that nefarious activities are being committed inside. The camera moves slowly with a slight list and you can hear a foot being dragged as if the camera has a broken ankle. The camera moves down to near the end of the hall way when you hear a scream inside on of the cells, its on a woman giving birth. The camera stops, swings in the direction of the cell, a baby is born. Suddenly the cell opens and a woman who is covered in blood and a nurses outfit rushes out holding the baby leaving the woman, who we can now see is restrained, behind wailing. This wailing is picked up by people in the other cells and soon the sound is a cacophony of wailing. The camera swings back to the nurse who is almost to the end of the hallway but now you can see there are woman in each cell in various stages of gestation, some are reaching out for the nurse in an attempt to grasp her or the baby. The Nurse gets to the door and goes through the camera follows but this time its from the front, as such we can now see that there is a sign above the door which she came out, it says Maternity Ward. The nurse goes through another door, this one unmarked, she presents the baby to a doctor who takes a blood sample which is analyzed almost immediately, the result that the monitor spits out is breading stock. The doctor takes the baby and gives it back to the nurse who walks through another door.

The camera goes back to the perspective of the person who was walking down the hallway before, because of the wailing we hear a new message from the speaker. The message is "Fear not proud mothers, fear not at all. For without your contribution none of this would be possible, without your contribution our perfect society would collapse. You are the foundation of it all." Slowly the guard limps to the end and you see a button, its just red, as the guard is about to hit the button a growl moan escapes its throat and with ragged breath you see the gloved hand hit the button, the camera goes to a directly over the shoulder view of the hall way, you can see that there is a line down both sides of the hall way where the rubber of the guards shoe has left a now indelible mark. The lights flick to red and a piercing noise hits, causing all the woman to grab their ears and fall back. This stops after a few seconds, the guard slowly turns and starts to walk back the other direction.

2. In this scene we see a man dragging himself up to a sink, the mirror behind is shattered, but enough remains that he can see himself in it. He is beat up, cuts on his face and his neck, a look of morbid horror in his eyes, he washes himself but has to support himself ackwardly the whole time, giving you the impression he has rib and leg injuries. His shirt is torn, as are his pants, both ares show that he is bleeding . He slowly washes his face the entire time just staring at his face and hands. He grabs a can of hairspray. Eventually he finishes up and slowly crawls to the hallway, you can just see a pair of shoes attached to something on the floor down the hallway. The dad stumbles towards it but falls and starts crying. After about 20 seconds of crying he wipes away his tears and turns around and crawls towards another room. As he gets there you see a pool of blood and a knife laying on the ground. Its the kitchen, the pool of blood has tracks going to a room in the back, the door is closed, you can hear something scratching at the door, pushing it, straining it. The man continues to slowly crawl into the kitchen. He reaches the stove, he musters up his strength to stand and grabs a hold of the stove. He jerks it back, falling and of course landing in the pool of blood, seeing the blood on his hands he once again starts to cry, with a quick glance to the shut door which is now banging against its hinges with a low moan coming from the other side. But this time he gets back up almost immediately and again yanks at the stove, slowly pulling it away from the wall. We get a view behind the stove and can see the gas line to the stove. The man grabs the cutting board and starts to use it to disloge the piping from the wall, after 3 or 4 hits he finally breaks the pipe connection to the wall. You can hear the gas escape. The guy falls back exhausted and passes out. He wakes up and immediately starts to cough, the gas smell has filled the air. The man perks up and crawls towards the microwave where he puts the can of hair spray in, he sets the timer for 10 minutes and hits start. He then stumbles and moves as fast as he can to the front door, we watch him get near the front door, he pauses as he passes a picture, he suddenly starts sobbing, one last big breathe and he make it out the front door then stumbles down the stairs in the front. The camera pans right to a picture of a family, its obvious to see the guy who we have been following is the same as the picture, with him is a 5 year old girl and a wife. We go get a quick shot down the hall way where the kids shoes have begun to move again. Then back to the door in the kitchen where the door has begun to almost come off its hinges. Suddenly back to the microwave and we can see the stickers on the hairspray start to bubble, a quick cut back to the guy who is just now starting to regain his balance, BOOOOMM goes the house throwing the guy forward. He is out. The camera then pans down the block and you can tell something is wrong with each house, there are cars wrecked down the street, the camera continues to pan out and you can see there are fires all over the place in this neighborhood, the camera continues to pan out and you can see this neighborhood is a couple miles from a city where there are abandoned cars all over the place, more fires everywhere. End scene.

3. For a lighthearted take, how about a magazine like People or Time, on the cover you have a picture of guy with the title "Meet the creator of Zombrex, our living person of the year"

One of the other article titles would be for woman. 1 easy step to see if a guy is interested in your brains or your body.

Thats all I got, hope you guys enjoy.

I thought of another idea but first a question. Does the not one zombie thing include video games?

My idea, you have a bunch of kids playing BlackOps via a lan party, they are playing the zombie mode, just show like 45 seconds of them killing zombies. Then a kid pips up, its amazing how realistic the zombies in this game are.

Suddenly you zoom out of the room, the kids are in an underground bunker, you continue to zoom out through the ground till you get to the surface and its a post apocalyptic world.

Any form of media is fair game. And, you know, that's a pretty good idea. I'd like to do that one.

Batting .250 with the ideas, sign me Flordia Marlins. I can play ball!

Thanks for the approval Kyle it means a lot coming from my internet ebert Wink

To flesh out the kids idea; maybe when you start the zoom out you could go to a camera that is stationed in the corner, which leads to a man watching about 6 different rooms all with kids playing blackops. The guy is wearing what looks like a uniform. Behind him is a guy in a suit who says sarcastically to no one "Don't worry kid you will soon find out"

Camera goes back to the monitor station and you see written above it is ZDF training rooms with a number above each monitor. The guy in the suit walks out the room and the camera follows him, he walks down a hall. He reaches a door at the end that says ZDF commanding officer Lt. Carver. Suit guy knocks and enters the room. There infront of a huge screen TV displaying a battle zone map, there are two officers, as the guy in the suit walks in you can hear the lower ranked officer say to the Lt, sir the last squad reported and there is no sign of any survivors. We still haven't had any reports from base X (you can make that up) and its been 2 days. Might be time to initiate protocal Kilo Tango Zebra.

The Lt notices the guy in the suit, and says we will talk about this later Seargant. The seargant salutes and leaves. The Lt then asks the guy in the suit how the class is doing. The suit replies "They are doing fine sir, give them another week and we can start them on range training." The Lt replies "good, its a shame that these kids are going to learn to fire a gun before they would be able to drive". The guy in the suit sort of shrugs and says "Either way they would be killing machines."

Then from there the camera zooms out of the bunker to the front door which says Zombie Defense Force, base 1156. Further zoom and you can see the post apocalyptic world through the destruction of a major city in the background.

End Scene.

Okay another one came to mind. In this one we will explore more the effect of a world of zombies on the younger generation.

Basic premise is that you have a father, mother, child (13) along with two other people. They have just reached a L4D style safe house. The Father or the Mother is greviously injured and unonscious, unfortunately no one knows if any of the injuries harbors a chance for infection as the character was also shot multiple times when a swarm overtook the party.

None of the adults knows what to do about the situation, the kid is the only one to act, he walks over to the injured party and slits their throat. The adults go crazy, they can't believe what has just happened. This was the kids parent and he killed them at the drop of a hat.

The kid with dead eyes looks at them and says, you are either an asset or a liability. There is nothing else. He then finds a corner and sits down and closes his eyes.

1. Okay, I thought of two more scenarios

First one, the basics are this, you hear the inner monologue of a male/female discussing philosophical idioms about the meaning of life, in short they go through the ideas of Kant, Neitzche, Aristotle, Descartes and maybe some religious platitudes. Of course all this discussion is all juxtaposed with the person countering each argument with lines like "they do seem to think, they do seem to want, they are alive"

As this is going on you hear a rhythmic metallic sound. The camera eventually focuses on the back of the persons head and pans past the head and down so you see the metallic sound was the person cleaning and assembling a hand gun. Eventually the person comes to the realization that to them the essence of humanity is making choices, which "those people dont do"

As this is going on you start to hear moaning and groaning of what sounds like a huge hoard of people, then you start to hear and see the door behind the person being pounded on.

So once the person realizes that to be a human means making a choice and the camera is focuse on the door, you hear the hammer click into a locking position and they say in internal monologue of course "Life is full of choices, some you regret and some you don't, the only choice I have left is to die a human being" Boom! Blood and brain splatter on the door and you hear the body hit the floor.

2. The second idea is based on my experience in Law School. There is actually a term called a philosophical zombie.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philosophical_zombie

Basically the idea is to go through a linear series of newspaper headlines following a case brought by a group like Zombie Liberties Union, the end would be that the court decides that Zombies while not natural people still have the same rights as a corporation and therefore are entitled to jurisprudence as defined by the constitution. The next headline is that the president has declared martial law and the supreme court and congress have been disbanded.

Still taking these all down. Not a huge fan of the last idea, though. Haley might be into it, though. She's really into the idea of twisting genres. My fear is that it goes beyond the scope of what N1Z is trying to accomplish. We're trying to keep it small and personal, and that idea seems to be grappling with bigger ideas. It's the direction that a few films have taken already, the one big one I can think of at the moment is called, I believe They Came Back. If I am remembering correctly, it was a french film that explored the very concept you're putting forth.

The first one is brilliant, though. What's stopping you from doing these yourself? It's supposed to be a community effort, after all.

The only things stopping me are; my intense fear of ever being on camera, the lack of tools to shot my scenarios, my laziness, and finally my desire to see this project filled with nothing but the best and frankly you are the best when it comes to producing visual presentations.

If I actually had friends, I would do these myself. But I don't. Also, I'm finally getting back to working on that script I never finished. I should also mention I have this problem where I FUCKING HATE everything I write so idk how long this is going to take. I'll shoot for beginning of next week though.
